Math Challenge May 10

My son, Tyler wants to make a deal with me. To help him keep his room clean, he has asked me to give him one penny for the first day he keeps his room clean, two pennies for the second day he keeps his room clean, four pennies for the third day he keeps his room clean, eight pennies for the fourth day he keeps his room clean, and so on. If this pattern continues, how much will I need to give him on the 8th day?
