Hot Air Balloon Editing Practice

What was floating above Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 9, 1793. It was Jean-Pierre Francois Blanchard on the first manned hot-air balloon flite in American History. Observed by president George Washington, the balloon stay in the air for about 15 miles and 45 minute. Blanchards flight sparked national interest in ballooning. Its reported that he take just one passenger with him on the flight -- a little black dog!

Nevada Day Edit

On October 31 1864 Nevada became the 36th U.S. state. With more than 110000 square miles of land, it is the seven largest state. Have you heard of Las Vegas! While it is the largest city in Nevada by population, Carson city is the state capital. The state's natural features include large lake's, the Colorado River and high peeks. In fact, Nevada's name comes from a Spanish word meaning "snowcapped.

Peanuts Edit

From the first day the peanuts comic strip appear in newspapers, the antics of Charlie Brown and his dog, snoopy had readers in stitches. Created by Charles M Schulz, the strip first appeared in October 1950. Other Peanuts characters included Linus Lucy and Sally. In the strip, when ever things went rong, Charlie's response was, Good grief!" When Schulz died in February 2000 many wondered if Charlie would ever kick a football.

You probably reconize Miss Piggy, big bird, and Oscar the Grouch, but do you know Jim Henson. Henson was the man behind the Muppets. He is born in Mississippi on September 24 1936. Henson created the Muppets in 1956. He one many awards for "Sesame Street and "The Muppet Show". Did you know that he was also the voice of Kermit the frog and Ernie! Henson died unexpectedly in 1990 at the age of 53.
